"Investigating the movement of our bodies and the spatial relationship in rhythmic time with an object and gravity."

About the show:

As part of UpDown Circus Festival artform development strand, we are delighted to host Alex for 2 days of learning and investigation, open to anyone interested in movement, rhythm and learning new things.

Following on  the regular Thursday Professional Class at Dance Cork Firkin Crane, we will take a deeper dive into the techniques and methodology Alex Allison has developed and honed over the last 15 years.

This juggling lab investigates the movement of our bodies and the spatial relationship in rhythmic time with an object and gravity.

It is not required to attend both days.

Supported by Cork City Council

About the artist:

Alex Allison came into contact with juggling 15 years ago while studying Celtic Studies at the University of Galway. The world of circus and performance has fascinated him ever since. Shortly after graduating, Alex decided to devote myself entirely to juggling and performance. Since then, Alex has been working on a language with which he can express himself on stage with objects. This journey has connected him with circus, dance, music, comedy and video art. Artistic juggling follows strict, almost mathematical rules and patterns, but Alex looks for the fragile and chaotic moments within it. This is how he explores aspects of human existence and find inspiration for his pieces under the lables of Maleta Company and Hippana.Maleta. The list of works includes ‘Boa Noite’ (2017), ‘Put A Spell On You’ (2018), as Hippana.Maleta ‘Tunnel’ (2019), ‘Runners’ (2021) and together with Sara Martinez ‘Claudette’ (2024)
